The Prom candidates have been very busy with volunteer activities in the community and school. Some of these have been setting up, and taking down, booths for the Kinette Craft Fair; setting up for the Health Foundation Gala; decorating the Auxiliary Hospital for Christmas; Taking decorations down at the Auxiliary; and on February 1st they will be helping to set up for the Trade Fair at the community center.
The prom candidates and escorts held their annual Christmas Tea on December 10, 2018. They were responsible for setting up their tables; seating their guests; serving tea/coffee/juice; and serving them dainties. Following this the candidates/escorts each auctioned off 2 one hour gifts of time. They have until the day of prom to fulfill these duties that people purchased. The evening concluded with auctioning off the centerpieces that the candidates/escorts made, as well as plates of goodies. In the next couple of months the candidates will have other community requests for them to volunteer at, as well as hosting the annual Fashion show in March.
The prom candidates/escorts meet every Tuesday at lunch time where we are currently working on public speaking, which is a very important skill that they will be judged on later in the year. Also as of January 22 we have started our dance lessons (another judged event), which occurs every Tuesday evening, and will continue until prom night. The beginning of February will also see them starting their production rehearsals. This is a fun, not judged, portion of prom where they can let their talents shine.
On May 2nd (at 11:20 am) the prom candidates (not escorts) will do impromptu speeches in front of judges, parents, guests, staff, and students. That same afternoon the candidates will have one-on-one interviews with the panel of judges.
The night they all work so hard for will be held on Friday, May 10 at the community center. The doors will open at 6:30, with the evening starting at 7:00 pm.
